Is it permanent?
Yes. Electrolysis is the only FDA approved permanent form of hair removal.
How does electrolysis work?
A probe is inserted into the base of the hair follicle, there, a current is sent to the dermal papilla and hair bulge, damaging the sources of nutrients and stem-cell growth within the follicle.
Does it hurt?
Some find the zapping to hurt, while others aren’t bothered by it. Sensation depends on many things including pain tolerance and hydration levels. If you find it to be too uncomfortable, many people find numbing cream (OTC or prescription) to help manage the pain.
How does electrolysis differ from laser?
Laser hair removal targets hair follicles with concentrated heat to slow down future growth. It works best when there is a strong contrast between your skin tone and hair color. The FDA classifies laser removal as hair permanent reduction, while electrolysis is permanent removal. Laser treatment has a rare side effect called paradoxical hypertrichosis, which can actually trigger extra hair growth in or around the treated areas, while electrolysis does not. Electrolysis works on any skin or hair type, regardless of pigmentation.
How long does it take?
To start seeing results, treatment generally takes 12-18 months. It is hard to give a direct answer due to the fact that hair growth is affected by many things including hormone levels and the size of the area we are treating/hair density.
Does electrolysis work for all skin colors and hair colors?
Yes!
